Whatever the watch, appearance takes precedence. Cartier firmly remains a jeweller, and almost every watch it invents includes a highly precious jewellery version. Many women’s models are principally conceived to be decorative: it is a bracelet with a watch rather than a watch with a bracelet. Some of them are extraordinarily sumptuous, sublime hymns to the passage of time.
