EL ARTE DE CARTIER (1999)

Mexico city, Palacio de Bellas Artes

The El Arte de Cartier exhibition commissioned by Agustin Arteaga, Director of the Palacio de Bellas Artes, pioneered a less academic, more aesthetic take on the pieces of the Cartier Collection. The exhibition was colourfully staged against the backdrop of the legendary Mexican museum famed for its Diego Rivera murals, which were originally created for NYC’s Rockefeller Center. Diva of the Mexican screen María Félix was reunited with her beloved animal jewellery: a striking diamond-set snake and a pair of crocodiles that form a necklace. Alongside the panther, these animals are icons of the Maison’s great animal-inspired expertise.
