Ocean Liners: Speed and Style

Exhibition from 3 February to 17 June 2018

This exhibition plunged visitors into the opulent world of 20th-century trans-Atlantic ocean liners and their elegant passengers. Co-organised by the Victoria and Albert Museum of London and the Peabody Essex Museum of Salem, Ocean Liners: Speed and Style was the first international exhibition to explore the cultural and creative dimension that developed around trans-Atlantic crossings. The Cartier Collection lent a tiara made of natural pearls and diamonds that belonged to Lady Marguerite Allan, a treasure that survived the tragic wreck of the Lusitania in 1915.

The show was first presented at the Peabody Essex Museum, in Salem, USA, known as Ocean Liners: Glamour, Speed and Style from 20 May to 9 October 2017.
