Museum aan de Stroom (MAS), Antwerp, Belgium
Exhibition from October 18, 2017 to January 14, 2018
MAS hosted the Cartier Collection to commemorate the Year of the Diamond in Antwerp, the diamond capital of the world for over 550 years. To mark the occasion, MAS hosted the Dazzling desire exhibition and offered a psychology-based ethnographic study of how Western societies value and portray this exquisite stone.
The Cartier Collection joined in the cultural study by showing one of its most important pieces: the Cartier tiara that belonged to Elisabeth, Queen of the Belgians. A stunning interpretation of the power of jewels, the headpiece was on display alongside historic jewelry and contemporary creations. It recalls the famous words of the Prince of Wales, future King Edward VIII, who once said, “Cartier, Jeweler to Kings, King of Jewelers.” Another exceptional piece was on view: a star brooch made in the early years of Cartier.
